Phulkari

Silk floss embroiders itself across a red dupatta, which lifts into a canopy over your names.

A hand-spun red khaddar dupatta covers the invitation. At a touch, a needle darns golden, saffron and magenta silk floss across it, lozenge by lozenge, the way phulkari is still worked by hand in Punjab. The tasselled knot slips loose and the dupatta lifts into a fringed canopy above the couple, like the phulkari held over the bride on her wedding morning.
