Balloon Bouquet

Untie the satin bow: a bouquet of pearl and chrome balloons lifts off a brass weight, the sun comes out on the plaster wall and the name is left in the light.

A styled-photoshoot birthday invitation, lit like a still life. Against a limewashed plaster wall, morning light from a tall window falls on a bouquet of pearl latex balloons in champagne, dusty rose, ivory, sage and mocha chrome, with a chrome-foil numeral cut from the wording, every one rendered with real reflections of the room, the window's glazing bars in each highlight and soft shadows on the wall. Silk ribbons gather in a hand-tied bow on a brushed brass weight on a linen-covered table, and the guest of honour's name is set high on the wall like a magazine cover. One tap and the bow slips undone: the balloons lift away in staggered parallax, the camera tilts up after them, the sun breaks through and throws the window across the plaster, and the name settles in the light beneath the ribbons. Inside: a note from the hosts on heavy cotton card banded in satin, an engraved countdown, a pop-a-balloon toy filled with gold leaf and the party details, cotton event cards and a reply card with a foil initial.
